Air India all-women crew creates history flying over North Pole

Air India flight AI-176 for the first time took off from San Francisco to Bengaluru international airport on a non-stop flight over North Pole covering a distance of about 16,000 kilometers.

The flight was operated by all-women cockpit crew of four women- Captain Zoya Aggarwal, Captain Papagiri Thanmai, Captain Akansha Sonaware, and Captain Shivani Manhas and landed at Kempegowda International airport in Bengaluru from San Francisco on Monday.

Air India took to twitter saying ‘Welcome Home.’

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) also took to twitter and Congratulated “Air India on the historic flight. Flight AI-176 was piloted by an all female cockpit crew for the landmark journey from San Francisco over the North Pole to Bengaluru international airport.”

Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Civil Aviation joined in congratulating the all-women crew of Air India and said, “In a moment to cherish & celebrate, women professionals of Indian civil aviation create history.”
