Akashvani Shillong Celebrates 67th Sangeet Sammelan with Meghalaya’s Finest Musicians

SHILLONG, NOVEMBER 27: Akashvani Shillong celebrated its 67th Sangeet Sammelan, a prestigious musical event, at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) today. The event brought together renowned musicians from across Meghalaya to showcase the region’s rich folk music and cultural heritage.

The evening featured performances by esteemed artists, including Padma Shri awardee Silbi Passah, Khorsha Kordor Marbaniang and Louvre Venus R. Marak, who enthralled the audience with their soulful vocals and traditional instruments. The Gwyneth A. Mawlong, Na Rympei and Colours bands also presented their unique styles, drawing the crowd into the rhythmic celebration.

Dr. Lapynshai Syiem, Head of the Department of Cultural Studies and Creative Arts, NEHU, praised Akashvani Shillong for its role in nurturing and promoting local talent, saying, “Akashvani has been a pioneer in preserving and promoting our musical traditions, and this event is a testament to its commitment.”

Hamarlin Diengdoh, Cluster Head and Regional Channel Manager, Akashvani Shillong, emphasized the significance of the Sangeet Sammelan, stating, “For over seven decades, this event has brought together the finest exponents of Indian music, celebrating our rich cultural heritage.”

The 67th edition of Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan is a collaborative effort between Prasar Bharati and the Ministry of Culture, showcasing India’s diverse musical traditions across 24 centers nationwide.
