At 17, Manipur records lowest single-day spike of COVID-19

Imphal: Manipur logged 17 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the lowest daily cases recorded in the last nearly eight months, since the second wave of Covid-19 hit the state. 

The positivity rate also dropped down to 1.4%, the lowest during the same period.

The second wave hit the state around the last week of March and it reported 1327 cases on July 21, the highest single-day spike since the outbreak of the contagion in the state in March 2020.

A girl student who returned from the UK tested positive for the virus on March 24 of the year was the first ever case in the state.

At least four people died in the last 24 hours, taking the overall toll to 1,975. One of the deaths was a Myanmar national who was treated in a hospital in Imphal after he was diagnosed with the contagion.
One death each was reported in Imphal West, Imphal East and Ukhrul district.

The Covid-19 active caseload now stands at 655 with the addition of 43 patients who were discharged upon recovery on the day.

The overall recovery count of the state stands at 1,22,539, which is 97.90% of the total infections.
The 17 fresh cases were reported from four districts with seven recorded in Imphal East district being the highest among other districts. 

Imphal West district reported six new cases while two cases each reported in Kamjong and Ukhrul districts.

The cumulative number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in the state also rose to 21,42,921 with 3,948 people being vaccinated on Sunday.

A total of 12,78,871 people got the first dose of the vaccine while 8,64,050 were fully vaccinated as they got the second dose.
