DIMAPUR: The Rising People’s Party (RPP), a political party based in Nagaland, urged the Army/Airforce authorities to consider what it called the life-threatening impact of sonic boom caused by jet fighters or possible controlled explosion of bombs/ammunition.

On January 28, 2026, sonic boom ripped through Dimapur town rattling in particular a private hospital housing many critical patients – causing one of the patients to undergo a massive cardiac arrest, alleged the RPP in a statement on Friday.

When the then Interlocutor RN Ravi declared that Naga peace talks had concluded, sonic boom became a regular occurrence in the Dimapur area, it stated. “Whether this was a coincidence or an intimidatory tactic cannot be established but it certainly created fear psychosis amongst the population,” the RPP added.

The Nagaland based political party then requested the defence authorities to clarify on the January 28 incident and ensure that such incidents are not repeated again. The RPP further requested the Nagaland state government to intervene in the matter. “The government may intercede with the higher authorities in ensuring that low flyovers in Dimapur vicinity is strictly prohibited or even banned due to risk factors related to the health of individuals, especially patients and concerns over the structural integrity of buildings”, the RPP also said.
