Ukhrul, September 12: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh vice president Hopingson Awungshi has dismissed as “a publicity stunt” the September 11, 2025 announcement, by what he described as “a group claiming to be executives of the 43/Phungyar BJP Mandal and Morcha,” who declared their resignation from the party.
In a press statement issued late evening on Friday, Hopingson Awungshi said the en masse resignation, led by Ngachonmi Ramshang and his associates, was “aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing the image of the party for personal gain.”

He alleged that those who signed the resignation had been involved in “anti-party activities” since the 2022 Assembly elections, after the BJP declined to nominate Ramshang as its candidate for the 43 Phungyar Assembly Constituency. “Instead of supporting the official party candidate, they actively campaigned for rival parties, thereby affecting the BJP’s position in the election,” Hopingson Awungshi stated, adding that a formal petition for disciplinary action had been submitted to the party president in March 2022.
The BJP vice president further clarified that the official Mandal and booth-level executives of the Phungyar constituency “remain intact and fully committed.” He asserted that the grassroots party workers were “working tirelessly in every village to strengthen the BJP’s presence.”

Describing the resignation statement as “a reflection of personal frustration and ambitions,” Hopingson Awungshi said it did not represent the actual condition of the party structure in Phungyar.
He further expressed confidence that the people of the constituency would continue to support the BJP’s values and vision.
