Chandel, July 16: The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) has issued a formal corrigendum clarifying its earlier press release dated July 15, 2025, regarding the alleged hijacking of a JCB vehicle near Kanan Kuki Village, Chandel District, on February 5, 2025. The organisation acknowledged a factual inaccuracy in suggesting inaction by 28 Sector Assam Rifles and attributed the error to a misunderstanding.
According to the CNPO, the JCB vehicle in question had been taken into protective custody by Assam Rifles during the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023. The vehicle was later returned to its rightful owner after a process of thorough verification and proper documentation. The alleged hijacking incident reportedly occurred after the official release of the vehicle, when it was no longer under the custody of the Assam Rifles.
