IMPHAL, Aug 21: Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has demanded the Central government and the State government of Manipur to initiate legal actions immediately against those authorities and individuals responsible for including “Chin State of Manipur” in the draft NEC Vision 2047 document recently.

Addressing a press conference today at COCOMI office located at Lamphelpat, Imphal, the committee’s coordinator Thokchom Somorendra stated that they took strong exception to the matter.

He said that COCOMI considered the insertion of the words “Chin State of Manipur” in the draft NEC Vision 2047 document as a deliberate distortion of Manipur.

“There is no possible way to make a mistake on this matter by a firmly established authority like NEC as even the common men know that there is nowhere called Chin State in the country. The incorrect words were intentionally put in the draft NEC Vision 2047 document which highlights the tasks to be implemented by 2047”, the COCOMI coordinator maintained.

Somorendra also said that there were multiple instances of distorting the names of places in Manipur by the Government of India and its agencies.

“In the past, Lamka had been added in the Imphal’s airport address in a flight ticket. Besides this, there were instances of changing the names of several places in Moreh in the PMJAY cards and Thangjing to Thangting among others”, Somorendra pointed out.

He also alleged that the inaction of the Central government and State government on such occurrences has made the public suspicious of the government working with a hidden agenda.

Somorendra then warned that COCOMI will take up strong agitations if the State government and the Central government fail to take up necessary steps for initiating legal action against those authorities or individuals involved in the “wrongdoings” in drafting the NEC Vision 2047 document within five days.

He also informed that COCOMI will seek an explanation from the NEC in connection with the matter.
