Colombia Beats USA as Manipur Polo International Opens in Imphal

UKHRUL, NOV 23: The 15th Manipur International Polo Tournament 2025 opened on Friday at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung in Imphal, marking the return of the prestigious event after a two-year break.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel and officials of the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association. Speaking at the event, Goel highlighted Manipur’s proud legacy as the birthplace of modern polo and reaffirmed the State’s commitment to strengthening the sport through better facilities, international exposure, and youth participation.

The opening match saw an energetic contest between Colombia and the United States, with Colombia sealing a 6–4 victory. The South American side dominated early play and maintained their lead despite a spirited comeback attempt by the U.S. team.

This year’s tournament features five teams: Colombia, the USA, India A (IPA), India B (Manipur), and Chhattisgarh. Matches will continue throughout the week, with the final scheduled for November 29.

The Manipur International Polo Tournament remains one of the State’s most awaited sporting events, celebrating both cultural heritage and global sporting camaraderie at the world’s oldest functional polo ground.
