Imphal: “The Modi regime has killed democracy in the country”, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, K Meghachandra as the Congress party in Manipur joined the nationwide protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha on Sunday.
Leaders, members and workers of MPCC staged the “One-day Satyagraha” near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi inside the Congress Bhavan here.

The protest was staged against the disqualification of AICC leader Rahul Gandhi from being MP of the Lok Sabha after he was convicted and sentenced for two years by a local court in Gujarat.

The protest commenced from 10 am and lasted till 5 pm was a part of nationwide “Sankalp Satyagraha” call given by the AICC to protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha.
“For truth and truth only,” read one of the placards displayed at the protest site. Others read as, “We stand with Rahul Gandhi”, “We are Gandhis, we are not savarkar”, “In solidarity with Rahul Gandhi” etc.
“India’s democracy has been killed under the Narendra Modi regime” said MPCC president K Meghachandra who spoke to the media on the sideline of the protest.
Meghachandra said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government has belittled the meaning of democracy by imposing a dictatorial form of government in the country.
“The Modi government has been trying to gag the people”, he said.

“Our leader Rahul Gandhi had only questioned the criminal attitude of Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi and Narendra Modi during a political meeting in Karnataka”, he claimed.
The MPCC president alleged that the Modi government was encouraging wrong doers by conferring awards while imprisoning those who stood for the truth.
He also said that the Modi government had not only suppressed the voices of the Congress leaders but other opposition parties.
“The clear example was deletion of the record of the questions raised by Rahul Gandhi during a Parliament session demanding reasons for providing a huge amount of loan to Adani group from the parliamentary proceedings,” he also said.
“MPCC stands in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi ji. Congress will continue its agitation in all districts and block levels to save democracy in the country”, the MPCC president added.
