Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) suspended one of its sitting legislators from being a primary member of the party today.
MPCC suspended Kh Joykisan Singh, who was also a spokesperson of the party, from being a primary member of the party on the recommendation of the Disciplinary Action Committee of the Indian National Congress (INC).
The suspension order was issued by MPCC general secretary, Hareshwar Goswami. He was suspended under Article XIX of the Constitution of the INC read with Clause(h) of ‘Miscellaneous’ provided under Article XXVII of the said Constitution.
On his suspension, Kh Joykisan Singh ceased to be a primary member of the Indian National Congress with immediate effect, the order added.
Joykisan joined the Congress party in the run up to the assembly election in 2017 and was re-elected from Thangmeiband constituency in Imphal West district.
Joykishan’s suspension came amid the speculation of the sitting MLA switching his political affiliation before the ensuing assembly election in Manipur.
Sources close to the MPCC disclosed that the sitting MLA was avoiding attending meetings of the party in the last few months, and as per the constitution of the party, a member of INC can be suspended if he or she fails to attend a meeting of the party three times consecutively.
