Congress Will Form Government in Assam: Rahul Gandhi

Former All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi is confident that the party will gain seats and will have a better performance in the first phase of the Assam assembly election which was held on March 27.

“I am confident that we will show good results in the first phase of the election here,” Gandhi said during an interaction with Pratidin Time.

“I will not get into speculations here, however, I am confident that our results will be as per our expectations. Congress has been fighting strongly against the BJP-led NDA government in Assam in the last five years,” he further said.

He further said that the media houses in Assam have failed to highlight the misrule of the BJP.

“I am sorry to say but media houses in Assam have not been critical of BJP misrule and they have failed to highlight it properly,” he said.

“I am confident of our victory in Assam this time and I have valid reasons for this belief as well,” he asserted.

“First is the rampant unemployment and the extreme price hike in the state and people will give a thumping reply to BJP in the election,” he added.

“Secondly, the Assamese people have clearly said that they are not going to accept the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), which the BJP is trying to implement in the state forcibly. CAA is against the spirit of the Assam Accord and is threatens the culture and language of the state. We will oppose it and not let its implementation if voted to power,” Gandhi further said.

The former AICC president further alleged that the BJP has failed to address the core issues of the state and situations in Assam have only deteriorated.

“Assam is fighting with rampant unemployment, price hike, floods etc but what the BJP is doing? It is spreading hatred by playing dirty politics. On the other hand, we are focusing on developmental politics. I am confident that people will vote for us and we will show good performance at the second and third phase of the election as well,” he added.

The second phase of the Assam assembly election will be held on April 1 and the third phase on April 6 and results will be declared on May 2.
