COVID screening at Manipur state entry points, Mao and Jiribam discontinued

Out of the 5,00,969 commuters screened so far in the state, the screening centre at Mao Gate had screened 1,68,578 commuters and truckers while the centre at Jiribam Gate screened 60,335.

The Manipur government has suspended all coronavirus screening of passengers entering the state through Mao Gate bordering Nagaland and Jiribam Gate bordering Assam.

Now, coronavirus screening is being done only to the passengers coming by air at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, an official source said on Sunday.

The thermal screening centres at the two important entry points at the borders were suspended following an order of the state Health department, the source said. With the removal of the thermal screening centres, officials deputed at the two screening centres were arranged for utilising in other COVID-19 related duties, the source said.

Meanwhile, the screening at Indo-Myanmar border at Moreh was suspended after the state government sealed the border several months ago.

It can be noted here that, out of the 5,00,969 commuters screened so far in the state, the screening centre at Mao Gate had screened 1,68,578 commuters and truckers while the centre at Jiribam Gate screened 60,335.
