Debunking the Claim: ‘Historical Legitimacy of Kuki Ancestral Homeland’

Published on

THE so-called World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) was banned by the Government of Manipur in October 2023. This fact alone severely undermines its moral and intellectual standing. Yet, this self-styled “intellectual” body continues to manufacture narratives, distort historical records, and circulate propaganda through unfounded and non-existent records manufactured by itself. Here, the term “intellectual” does not refer to a genuine intellectual body but to a subtly manipulative organization to systematically campaign misinformation.

Their recent press release (dated February 22, 2026) is nothing new but a desperate attempt to salvage their already defeated image after repeated exposure of their naked lies. Rather than presenting verifiable historical evidence, the release appears to be an exercise in damage control and narrative management.

Regarding their claim of the so-called *“historical legitimacy of Kuki,”* the WKZIC has now gone to the extent of appealing to NSCN/GPRN, the Government of India, and all Indians for “formal recognition and merger within the Union of India.”

From their earlier tall claims of Kuki origin tracing back to Lord Buddha’s reincarnation and references in the Cheitharol Kumbaba, they have now shifted to publicly begging for recognition. This contradiction itself exposes the fragility of their narrative.

However, what they carefully avoid mentioning in their public appeal is their ideological project of “Zalengam”, the struggle for a separate Kuki land/country. This omission is not accidental; it is strategic. It is a textbook example of selective narrative framing designed to soften their image before national audiences but preserving separatist ideology in the table of their deceitful heart.

The So-Called Proto-Historical Identity:

The WKZIC’s attempt to patch together their invention, Manmasi (claimed to be a corrupt form of Manasseh), and the term ‘Khongjais’ used by the Meiteis has no scientific or historical logic. it is creative fiction masquerading as scholarship. There is no linguistic, anthropological, or archaeological framework supporting such a claim. Moreover, they have used this fallacy to connect selectively with British colonial records while conveniently ignoring numerous official documents by British administrators such as Sir James Johnston, Roberts Reid, and McCulloch, who described Kukis as “Refugees, Porters”, etc.

On Early Territorial Recognition:

Self-styled Dr. T. Haokip, president of the so-called WKZIC, used to confidently quote “Pleasures of the Past: A Social History of the Manipur Kingdom from 1764 to 1949,” allegedly authored by “Parratt, J.” and published by Vikas Publishing House (p.153-154, Vol. 2 1997), specifying page and volume numbers. Thinking that by quoting the name of a world-renowned professor like Sir John Parratt, they could easily deceive the people and avoid being easily caught.

However, their naked lies were exposed through my article, “Propaganda as Strategy: How the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) Leveraged a Fictional Book to Assert Indigeneity,” published in Ukhrul Times on February 13, 2026. Today, they subtly adopted new tactics, quoting additional names such as Chawthe (2010, p. 50), in a pattern strikingly similar to their earlier use of the phantom book “Pleasure of the Past” (Vikas Publishing House, p. 153–154, Vol. 2). This desperate attempt to twist the truth perfectly reflects the warning in the Bible: “The heart of man is desperately wicked above all things.”

On The So-Called Anglo-Kuki War (AKW):

The fact about this so-called AKW is that it was not a war fought between the Kukis and the British, but rather involved Kuki aggression against Indigenous Naga communities. This includes the unprovoked attack on Chingsow (now Chingsui), the massacre at Goitang village, the Kharam village tragedy, the total annihilation of Mongjarong Khunou, and the destruction of Dailong village all perpetrated by thr Kukis. All these incidents have been selectively reframed and rebranded under the broader label of the “Anglo-Kuki War.”

The WKZIC, in its effort to manufacture indigeneity by any available means, is reshaping the complex historical conflicts into a simplified political narrative. Such retrospective labeling, if not supported by rigorous multi-source evidence, will definitely distort history rather than clarifying it.

On The Narrative of “Kukis’ Participation in the Indian Freedom Movement”:

Officially established British colonial records state that the Nagas fought for India’s Independence. Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu (a Rongmei Naga), both of whom are documented in Indian history and school textbooks (which even the students of Kuki communities study in their respective schools), are recognized historical figures. It is also historically recorded that Naga labour corps were recruited by British India for service in France and England during the First World War and the Second World War, with a promise that the British would grant Indian Independence after the war.

In absolute contrast, the WKZIC is trying to manufacture the fallacy of the Anglo-Kuki War. What is ridiculous is that this so-called WKZIC relies on the writings of P. S. Haokip, a semi literate individual who is facing multiple criminal cases, including one at Jalukie Police Station in Peren District, Nagaland.

This so-called Intellectual body is attempting to impress laymen readers through heavy citation styling (e.g., Zalengam, 1998, p. 196) without corresponding academic robustness. This cumulative pattern, selective sourcing, shifting narratives, and contested references, has undeniably concluded that the so-called WKZIC has no credibility. It is a propaganda-driven platform rather than a serious intellectual institution.
