Imphal: Enhanced security measures have been in place across the strife-torn Manipur, particularly in Imphal on the eve of India’s Independence Day which would be celebrated on Tuesday.
Teams of police commandos continued to conduct search cordon and search operations at sensitive areas of the capital city and its outskirts.
The teams of police commandos have been conducting house to house search operations in various areas.

In continuation of the operation, a team of Imphal West district police commandos conducted the operation at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai under Lamphel police station of Imphal West district this morning.
About 30 houses were searched and 70 individuals were verified. No one was detained, the police said.
The security has been beefed up in the backdrop of bandhs on August 15 by various rebel groups as part of boycotting the celebration of India’s Independence Day.

Besides CorCom (Coordination Committee), a conglomerate of major rebel groups of Manipur resorting to arms struggle to regain Manipur’s sovereignty, other rebel groups have also announced to impose general strikes to boycott the day as in previous years.
The CorCom had already announced to call the general strike from 1 am till 6.30 pm on August 15, with exemption to essential services like medical, electricity, water supply, fire service, media and religious observances.
