Ukhrul, October 27: A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred in the eastern region of Nagaland on the 25th of October claiming the lives of two men on a motorcycle from Aoching village. The accident occurred around 10:30 am along the route between Pongo village and Longleng town, with police receiving information around 10:50 am from passerby confirming that both the victims had died on the spot.
The stretch of road where the hit-and-run occurred is a segment of the Tuensang–Longleng–Mokokchung corridor a key route connecting several Assam Rifles posts.

According to local reports, residents suspected that a vehicle from an Assam Rifles convoy may have been involved. Later that evening, when another Assam Rifles convoy passed through Longleng town, an angry mob pelted stones and vandalized the vehicles in protest.
The families of the victims subsequently lodged an FIR and police officially began their investigation on the 26th of October, as personnel were initially occupied with crowd control. No arrests have been made so far and there are no known eye witness accounts of the collision.
In response, the Phom People’s Council, Phomla Hoichem and Phom Students Conference today organized a solidarity rally at the Local Ground in Longleng. The event honoured the deceased and called for justice and accountability, with the organisers urging citizens to participate as a gesture of unity and mourning.
As a gesture of solidarity and respect for the family of the deceased all business establishments, educational institutes, schools and colleges across Longleng district remained closed during the rally.

While efforts are still underway to identify and apprehend the culprits, the Phom People’s Council President stated that movement of military vehicles will be prohibited till those responsible are apprehended.
