UKHRUL, NOV 27: Hong Kong has witnessed one of its most ferocious blazes in decades, leaving 44 people dead, including a firefighter, while 279 remain missing.
The fire erupted on Wednesday (November 26) in a densely packed residential complex in northern Tai Po, which houses over 4,600 residents across 2,000 apartments in eight blocks.
Police said the incident was caused by a “grossly negligent” construction firm. Buildings were wrapped in protective mesh and plastic that may not have met fire safety standards, and officers also found windows sealed with foam material during ongoing maintenance works.
