UKHRUL: Four indigenous livestock breeds from the Northeast—Nagami Mithun (Nagaland), Manipuri duck (Manipur), Assam’s Nagi duck and Rajdigheli geese have been officially registered by ICAR–NBAGR, placing them on India’s national livestock genetic map.
The recognition strengthens conservation, scientific improvement, and livelihood prospects. Notably, Nagami Mithun becomes the world’s first officially recognised Mithun breed, marking a milestone for regional biodiversity and traditional farming communities.
