Dhubri Panchayat member disqualified over child marriage violation

UKHRUL: Following an official inquiry, the Dhubri district commissioner has disqualified and removed Anchalik Panchayat member Amir Ali for violating the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.

The inquiry found that Ali’s wife was a minor at the time of marriage. Citing provisions of the Assam Panchayat Act, 1994, the seat has been declared vacant with immediate effect.
