Imphal: Body of Man Swept Away by Floodwaters Found

Imphal, Ukhrul, September 19: A man who was swept away by the strong current of floodwaters after the Imphal River breached its banks at Wangoi Mamang Khaidem Leikai has been found dead.

The victim, Wahengbam Gourahari from Mayang Imphal Chirai in Imphal West, went missing on Thursday while checking his fish farm. His body was recovered on Friday.

Earlier, another individual, Mh. Ramjan Ali (70), was also swept away by the powerful current of the Iril River at Kshetrigao Awang Leikai.

The Imphal River suffered a major breach at Wangoi Mamang Khaidem on Wednesday morning, resulting in severe damage across parts of the Imphal Valley. Many houses and vast areas of agricultural land, including fish farms and paddy fields, were submerged in locations such as Yumnam Huidrom, Mayang Imphal, Laiphrakpam, Iramsiphai, Paobitek, Phibou, Chabung Company, and Chirai, among others.

However, the Water Resources Department, with the help of local residents, managed to plug a major portion of the river breach by Thursday evening.
