Even though there is steady decline in the daily caseload of COVID-19 in Manipur, Imphal West district, one of the twin capital districts of Manipur, continues to report a maximum number of fresh cases of COVID-19 among the districts.
Analysis of the daily update report of the state Health department showed the state recording below 100-mark in the daily caseload since December 14.
However, the most affected Imphal West district continues to report the maximum number of fresh cases of the disease almost every day during this period.
On Saturday too, of the 67 fresh cases of COVID-19 detected in the past 24 hours (till 4pm of January 9), 42 are from the district and 12 from Imphal East, the second most affected district of the state.
Including today’s fresh positive cases, the district (Imphal West) has reported a total of 9,203 infections excluding the number of infections among the residents of the district who returned from other states.
With 8,977 infections including the 12 fresh cases detected in the past 24 hours, Imphal East district continued to be the second most affected district of the state.
Meanwhile, the overall positive cases of COVID-19 of the state reached 28,646 on Saturday. The caseload included 27,766 recoveries as the active case stood at 515 after 31 patients were discharged after recovering from the disease today.
The recovery rate of the state dropped to 96.92%. It was 97.04% on the previous day (on January 8).
The number of COVID-19 casualties of the state also rose to 364 as one more patient expired today. The latest victim, a 55-year-old man from Imphal West died at Raj Medicity hospital where he was treated after being diagnosed with the viral infection.
In the district-wise number of casualties too, Imphal West recorded the highest number of deaths. Including the one who expired today, the deadly virus has claimed 129 lives in the district.
With 84 deaths, Imphal East district followed far behind the district.
