Inter-state Vehicle Theft Racket Busted In Aizawl

UKHRUL: A vehicle theft racket was busted in Aizawl on Monday, leading to the arrest of four people.

The accused have been identified as Zakaria Ahmed(19), Noor Ahmed (19), Babul Hussain (19) and Junil Hussain (19) from Karimganj and Patharkandi districts of Assam currently residing in Durtlang area of Aizawl.

The incident came to light when a case was registered on the theft of a Yamaha R15 V3 at Bawngkawn Police Station on January 18. Upon investigation, the suspects were found to be involved in multiple other vehicle theft cases between November 2025 and January 2026.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that some of the stolen motorcycles were sold in Silchar, Assam. When police recovered the stolen motorcycle from Zuangtui on Monday, they also recovered two additional motorcycles which were stolen by the group between Sunday and Monday.

All four have been remanded to police custody for 72 hours as further linkages to the case are being investigated and recovery of more stolen vehicles are underway.
