Uday S Reddy, a Computer Science lecturer at Birmingham University has been accused of inciting violence and hatred in the troubled region of Manipur, India.
Over the allegation against Uday S Reddy, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on July 2 condemned in what it called, “filing of baseless complaints against Professor Uday Reddy, a UK-based academic.” KIM had said that Uday S Reddy has been pivotal in revealing and preserving the true history of the Kuki people. The apex Kuki body also praised Reddy’s scholarly work and social media activism, which challenges biased narratives and highlights the misuse of state mechanisms to suppress the Kuki community. The organization accused the Manipur Government of attempting to silence dissenting voices like Reddy’s to maintain political dominance and marginalize the Kuki community. KIM urged authorities to dismiss these complaints and support freedom of speech and education, emphasizing that similar tactics have been used against other critics of the Manipur Government.
Further, in his X note, the complainant Khuraijam Athouba expressed gratitude to the community members for their assistance and reiterated their commitment to ensuring that justice is served, “Our unwavering aim is to ensure that truth prevails, to contain and control criminals inciting violence and hatred in the troubled region of Northeast India, and thereby restore peace and security in Manipur.”
It is important to highlight that IPSA, together with seven civil society organizations—ACOAM Lup, PANDM, IPAK, KANGLAMEI, KIL, CLK, and KSA recently selected Khuraijam Athouba to represent the issues facing Manipur at the 56th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which was held from June 18 to July 12 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
The X handle @Kautilya33 has been long withheld after these allegations.
