Ukhrul: The Kom Naga Union, Manipur (KONUM), has issued a stern warning to the Kom Tribe Council (KTC) and Kom Union Manipur (KUM) to cease any attempts at distorting or manipulating historical facts regarding the Kom Tribe’s affiliation with the Naga community. In a press statement on Tuesday, KONUM stated that the Kom Tribe’s connection to the Naga family dates back to 30 AD and is a foundational aspect of the community’s heritage.
KONUM said its longstanding participation in key Naga organizations, including the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) and the United Naga Council (UNC). It underscored that the UNC has officially recognized the Kom Tribe’s affiliation with the Naga community, leaving no room for dispute.

“We urge KTC and KUM to refrain from instigating divisive politics within the Kom community. Such actions will only serve to drive a wedge between our people and undermine the progress we’ve made. Any sparks that may fly will be the sole responsibility of those who fan the flames,” cautioned KONUM.
In the same statement, KONUM strongly condemned the recent attack on Kom villagers of Sagang Area by suspected Kuki militants from the Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) at Dampi Village on December 4, 2024. Describing the assault as “heinous,” crime, the organization demanded justice for the victims and called for immediate action from the Union Government and State Government against the perpetrators and also demanded to safeguard minority Kom Tribe Villagers in maintaining peace and harmony.
