Kuki-Zo Council consultation on political roadmap held in Churachandpur district

Ukhrul, Feb 25: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), on Tuesday organised a Kuki-Zo leaders consultation on a political roadmap where hundreds of leaders from recognised tribes and district frontal organisations attended the meeting in Churachandpur district.

Leaders from the Kuki-Zo community deliberated and discussed on the roadmap for political solutions for lasting peace and justice for the Kuki-Zo in Manipur.

Highlighting the major activities of the Council, KZC general secretary Rev Dr VL Nghakthang also reminded the delegates present in the meeting that KZC is not a nomenclature but it is formed to strive common political challenges facing by the Kuki-Zo in Manipur – which he said is an urgent need for a Separate Administration within the provisions of the Indian Constitution.

Each tribe’s president and representatives also shared their opinions towards achieving the political goal.

According to the ITLF leader, the Kuki-Zo leaders during the consultation made a declaration for a political roadmap, including its vision, demand, commitment and appeal. It also identified seven plans of action of the Council towards its vision, which was agreed by all delegates and signed by the Council leaders and respective tribes’ presidents.

The Kuki-Zo Council said it envisions Separate Administration in the form of Union Territory under Article 239A of the Indian Constitution, which ensures the safety, well being and self determination under the Indian Constitution.

In a Declaration, signed by KZC president Henlianthang and its general secretary Rev Dr VL Nghakthang, it stated that the Kuki-Zo people have separated with the Meitei geographically, physically and historically and appealed the Government of India to recognize the urgency of their demand for Separate Administration and to take immediate action to address their concerns.

The Council also appealed to all stakeholders to join in their pursuit of peace, justice and self-determination under the Indian Constitution for the Kuki-Zo people.
