Following heavy rockslides which occurred along Dimapur-Kohima road (National Highway-29) on Tuesday morning (February 2), the district administration of Dimapur has restricted traffic along the road till further order. The location is a few kilometres away from Dimapur.
Four vehicles were damaged and three occupants injured when rocks fell on them on NH-29, according to reports. The reports said that massive rocks slid around 10 am. The rocks got slacked due to road construction explosions. As such, travelling along NH-29 has become risky these days.
The order from the Dimapur district administration said, “In view of heavy rockslides between Chumukedima Police Check Post till New Chumukedima village the road from Chathe River Bridge (Patkai Bridge) to Kukidolong is hereby closed with immediate effect till further order”.
The reports said that a Mahindra Pickup, a Maruti Gypsy, a Bolero and a Wagon-R are the vehicles which got damaged by the incident.
The order of the Diomapur administration then stated, “General public may take the alternative route from Dimapur-Kohima/Kohima-Dimapur for light vehicles only via 7th Mile – New DC office – Shokhuvi – Razaphe-Mhaikam – Pimla -Mhainamtsi – Jhomapani/Medziphema and vice versa. All concerned may take note of the same for necessary action”.
