Imphal: The Liangmai Naga Council of Eastern Zone (LNC -EZ), the Eastern Liangmai Chief Chairman Association (ELCCA) and the Ahangruak Chief Chairman Association (ACCA) “strongly” condemned the “senseless statement” made by the Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA) whereby the latter stated that Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi, Thadou Inpi Kangpokpi, KSO Sadar Hills, TSA Sadar Hills, Thadou Youth Association (TYA), Vaiphei People’s Council (VPC) Kangpokpi, Zillai Kangpokpi Gangte Students Organisation (GSO) Kangpokpi, Kuki Women Union Kangpokpi, Thadou Women Association Kangpokpi and Kom Rem Students’ Association Kangpokpi are the only civil society organisations in Kangpokpi district. “Such an irrational statement is condemnable and uncalled for,” said the Liangmai organisations, while adding, “The fact of the matter is that the above mentioned organisations are exclusively Kukis based civil society organisations and therefore, the SAHILCA should not try to mislead the general public through media by disrespecting the indigenous people and distorting the history of the land,” the Liangmai bodies asserted.
In a joint press statement Wednesday, the Liangmai organisations termed the SAHILCA press statement as “very unfortunate, ignorant and immature” which appeared in public domain which can “escalate communal flare up in the state if the said statement is not clarified at the earliest”. The Liangmai organisations also said that they “viewed seriously such a reckless statement made by SAHILCA”. The Liangmai bodies then “advised” SAHILCA to consult historians, geographers and update themselves so that such an “illogical statement which has a huge potential to create enmity between the communities can be avoided in future”.
According to the Liangmai bodies, in democratic society, no particular community has authority to issue any diktat over other communities in any matter whether it is a formation of a union or a civil society organisation. “In fact, in a plural society like Manipur, there is no place for hegemony or monopoly,” the Liangmai bodies added.
