UKHRUL: Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland (ZB-N) on Friday expressed deep concern over the recent disturbing incidents that have taken place in Manipur over the last few days.

In a statement, ZB-N said the burning of houses in Litan, Ukhrul district on February 8, followed by the unprovoked targeted attack and burning of a house at K Lungwiram village, a Zeliangrongpui Naga village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on February 9, are unfortunate incidents that threaten communal harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Stating that it viewed the matter with utmost seriousness, ZB-N stated that the Zeliangrongpui people have always upheld the values of peace, mutual respect, and coexistence with all communities.

“We do not seek confrontation. However, repeated and unprovoked attacks on our people create fear, insecurity, and mistrust, which cannot be ignored,” it stated, adding that it is also mindful of growing concerns regarding encroachment on their ancestral lands and the spread of poppy cultivation and other illegal activities, which have wider implications for social stability and the rule of law.

ZB-N reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful coexistence with all peace-loving communities, while appealing to all concerned to exercise restraint and refrain from any form of violence that may escalate tensions further.

It also asserted that it does not wish to witness another episode of Kuki-Naga ethnic conflict in Nagaland or in any region where our people have been living peacefully.

ZB-N called upon the concerned authorities to conduct a prompt and impartial investigation, identify and prosecute those responsible, and ensure that adequate compensation, security, and protection are extended to the affected families without delay.
