Manipur CM N Biren Singh Urges Mass Tree Planting

IMPHAL, JULY 23: In order to combat global warming, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh encouraged people to plant more trees.

Biren Singh elaborated the need for mass tree plantation. “We need nature to survive but nature doesn’t need us”, he added. “Global warming and climate change led to natural calamities in the state. Mass tree plantation has been conducted and we are targeting to plant around 70 lakhs tree saplings in the State till September 2024”, he added.

Biren said this while attending the 75th Van Mahotsav, 2024 under the theme “Ek Ped: Maa ke Naam” at Chingpu Sabi Lairembi Ching, Lamlai Imphal East today. The programme was organised by the Forest Department, Government of Manipur.

N. Biren Singh applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi “for his innovative idea” of planting trees in the name of mother. Such will enhance the bonding to the plant for future nurturing, he added.

During the program, the Chief Minister assured that a water supply scheme will be set up in every village of the constituency. 11 football grounds of International standards will be developed in the state, he added. Out of which, a football ground is being developed in Lamlai assembly constituency under the scheme.

While delivering his presidential speech, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister, SThongam Biswajit Singh stated that 140 crores tree saplings will be planted under the “Ek Ped: Maa ke Naam” across the country. Van Mahotsav is being observed to spread awareness among the students, youth and masses to protect, conserve and preserve the forest. Speaking on the importance of trees and forest, he encouraged the public to plant more trees in the state.
