Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh has hinted today that BJP and NPF are going to be the only two likely alliance partners in the new Manipur government. He also said that other political parties have announced to extend support to the government but they may not be included in the “sharing” of the alliance in the near future. Biren Singh, however, added that his government will “welcome” the support extended by other political parties.

Talking to reporters on the sideline of his visit to Ema Keithel (women market) in the heart of Imphal today, Biren Singh made this comment.

In the recently concluded elections to the state Assembly, the BJP secured absolute majority by winning 32 seats in the 60-member assembly of Mnipur.

The NPP, a part of the BJP in the previous government, bagged seven seats, JD(U) won six seats, Congress and NPF secured five seats each while Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) won two seats. Three seats went to independents.

Except the Congress, all other political parties have assured their support to the government formed by the BJP as NPP also submitted a letter of support to the government today. The letter was submitted to the Governor by the NPP legislators.

In the letter signed by the seven MLAs of the NPP, it was stated that they would like to extend support to the BJP-led government in the state as alliance partner of NEDA and NDA.
