Manipur COVID-19 related fatality number nears 2000-mark

The COVID-19 related death toll in Manipur has come close to 2,000-mark as three more patients succumbed to the infection in the past 24 hours.

One death each was reported in Imphal West district, Bishnupur district and Churachandpur district, taking the fatality toll of the state to 1,998. None of the deceased was vaccinated against COVID-19 and all of them had comorbidities, the Health department said.

Meanwhile, Manipur reported only eight fresh cases of the disease in the last 24 hours, the lowest single-day spike in the last nine months, since the second wave of the pandemic hit the state around the last week of March this year

The infection tally in the state reached 1,25,669 with the addition of eight fresh cases, the Health department said in its latest bulletin. Imphal East reported four positive cases in the last 24 hours, that is, half the fresh cases were reported from the district. The worst affected Imphal West district reported two cases and one each in Bishnupur and Thoubal district. No new cases reported in the remaining 12 districts of the state.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases in the state also came down below 200-mark as it stood at 188 after 22 patients were discharged upon recovery against the eight new cases. Adding the fresh recoveries, as many as 1,23,483 patients have been recovered from the viral disease in the state. the recovery rate stood at 98.26%. At 0.5%, the state also registered the lowest daily positivity rate in the last around nine months. A total of 1,536 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the overall count of samples tested in the state so far to 14,51,046.

Meanwhile, with 4,300 people being inoculated on Tuesday, the total number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in the state reached 22,80,399. A total of 13,14,719 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine in the state while 9,65,680 people have been fully vaccinated with first and second doses, the Health department added.
