COVID-19 related death toll rose to 27 in Manipur on Friday as two more patients including a personnel of the Assam Rifles died.
Official sources said that two latest victims died at JNIMS hospital. The 55-year-old Assam Rifles personnel died around 5.55 am while the 40-year-old civilian woman succumbed in the wee hours, around 12.30 am.
The deceased Central paramilitary personnel , identified as Harinder Rai of 16 Assam Rifles post at Keithelmanbi in Imphal West district was admitted at Covid care centre of JNIMS hospital on August 13 last after he was tested positive for the virus. Even though he was the first victim of COVID-19 among the Assam Rifles in the state, a BSF personnel posted in Manipur had also died due to the pandemic recently.
The civilian woman who died due to the pandemic on Friday was identified as Devkumari Devi (40), wife of Om Prakash Sahu of Telipati in Imphal East district. She was admitted on August 21 after getting contracted with the virus.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in Manipur rose to 5843 with the detection of 118 new cases including 37 Central Armed Police (CAPF) personnel in the last 24 hours (till 5 pm of August 28). Of the total 5843 cases, 1511 of them are CAPF personnel, the report said. It added that, among the 81 new cases from the general population, 79 of them have no recent significant travel history, the latest report of the state Health department further said.
