Appointed as Member of the Manipur Medical Council in January 2025, Dr Simpson Sareo is known for his long-standing contributions to medical education and healthcare in the Manipur and Northeast. He holds an MD in Biochemistry from MU and MBBS degree from Gauhati University. His appointment is expected to strengthen regional representation in the NMC and bring grassroots insights into national-level policy-making in medical education.
The National Medical Commission is India’s top regulatory body for medical education and practice. It replaced the Medical Council of India in 2020 and is responsible for ensuring quality standards across the country’s medical institutions and practitioners.
It may be added that a total of 24 part-time members were appointed to the NMC and its four autonomous boards. Along with Dr Abhijat Sheth, who took over as Chairperson in early July 2025, these appointments complete the Commission’s current leadership structure.
