IMPHAL: Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla has assured that the government will make known the concrete plans and progress regarding the situation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the earliest.
This came after a large number of people including IDPs marched towards the Lok Bhavan in Imphal on Monday demanding concrete measures on the issue at the earliest. Over 60,000 people have been displaced by the 2023 ethnic clashes in Manipur.
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) leaders said the Governor assured them that the government will give in written in a day or two regarding its concrete plans and progress on the issue of IDPs. According to COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athouba, they met the Governor today to raise questions on why the government failed to respond to the various memorandums submitted by the COCOMI last year on the issue.

During the meeting, the COCOMI leaders also asked the Governor whether there is a thing called ‘buffer zone’ in Manipur, to which the latter replied in negative. The government is likely to give an official statement regarding all these issues including its plans on the issue of internally displaced persons within a couple of days’ time.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Lok Bhavan said that representatives of COCOMI and IDPs called on Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Lok Bhavan, Imphal on Monday. They shared broad concerns related to the situation of IDPs and raised various issues requiring attention. Discussions also touched upon matters linked to arrangements in certain areas adjoining the valley and the hills, said the statement.
