Imphal: Security force personnel in Manipur have confiscated a large quantity of illegal drugs – heroin power and WY tablets – in three separate operations. Five alleged drug peddlers were also arrested in the operations, police said on Sunday.
The police said that a team of Imphal East police commandos arrested a person following the recovery of 6000 WY tablets and 50 gram of brown sugar from his possession.
The police commandos arrested the person, identified as Md Feroz Khan of Imphal West district from North AOC, Imphal this morning.
The police personnel on frisking and checking operations in the area based on specific information intercepted the person who came on an Activa (two-wheeler) with no number plate.
The police alleged that Feroz Khan collected the drugs from a drug smuggler at Mayang Imphal and transported for handing over to another person at North AOC.

The arrested person along with the seized drugs has been handed over to Imphal police station for investigation and necessary legal action, the police also said.
In one of the incidents, a combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos, 16 Assam Rifles and personnel of Moirang police station also arrested an alleged drug peddler along with 179 gram of Heroin (No.4) on Saturday evening. The combined team on frisking and checking operation at Kwakta Lamkhai under Moirang police station intercepted the contraband drug during a check to the alleged drug peddler on suspicion.
The arrested person was identified as Salman Ahmad of Bishnupur district. Police in Churachandpur district also arrested two persons with brown sugar in two separate operations on Saturday.
One of the persons was arrested along with 42 gram of brown sugar from Ngathan village where a team of the district police conducted a frisking and checking based on specific information.
The illegal drug packed in soap cases were discovered when the police conducted a check to a two-wheeler, the alleged drug peddler came with.
The arrested person was identified as Kiyam Naoba alias Rajesh of Churachandpur district.
One more alleged drug peddler was also arrested by another team of the district police who were on random frisking and checking operation at Tuibong area of the district.
The arrested person was identified as Thangminlen Haokip of Churachandpur district, the police source said.
