Manipur logs 18 new cases of COVID-19, no death

Imphal: Manipur recorded a slight increase in the daily tally of COVID-19 cases as the state reported 18 fresh cases on Tuesday. The state had recorded 11 infections on August 15 and six on August 14, with no fresh deaths in these days.

The 18 fresh cases took the overall infection count of the state to 1,39,537 while the death toll remained unchanged at 2,143 with no fatality link to the virus in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate of the day was 4.0% as the fresh cases were detected upon testing of 446 samples in the last 24 hours. As many as 16,40,837 samples have been tested for the virus in the state so far.

Despite the surge in the daily infection tally, the state recorded a decline in the active cases as 25 patients were discharged upon recovery on the day against the fresh cases. The active cases declined to 149 against 156 in the previous day.

The recovery tally of the state touched 1,37,245 while the recovery rate improved to 98.36%. As per the IDSP data, the fresh cases were detected in eight districts of the state. Five cases each were reported in Imphal East and Imphal West districts, two each in Churachandpur and Ukhrul and one each in Bishnupur, Kakching, Pherzawl and Senapati.

Meanwhile, only 247 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday. It took the cumulative doses of the vaccine administered in the state so far to 31,45,312.

The total included 16,23,321 first dose and 12,94,400 second dose. As many as 2,27,591 people have also jabbed with the precautionary dose so far, the health bulletin added.
