Manipur logs highest ever 23 deaths in a day

Manipur on Wednesday recorded its highest single-day toll of 23 death cases due to COVID-19 complication even as the state recorded 582 new cases of the disease in the last 24 hours.

The highest ever single-day deaths pushed the state’s COVID-19 fatality toll to 635.  
Six of the deceased persons were females, said the state Health department in its latest bulletin updated at 5pm on Wednesday.

Six deaths were registered in Imphal East as well as in Bishnupur, five from Imphal West, two each from Kakching and Thoubal and one each from Churachandpur and Ukhrul districts, as per the state Health department.

With a fresh jump of 582 COVID-19 cases, the infection tally of the state rose to 41,265 with the active caseload standing at 6,817. 

As 347 patients were discharged today upon recovery, the recovery tally also rose to 33,813 even as the recovery rate dropped further to 81.94%.

Again, of the 582 new infections, 12 were personnel of the Central security forces and of the 570 from the general populace, 278 were from Imphal West, 137 from Imphal East, the two most affected districts of the state. 

Churachandpur, the district considered to be the third most affected one among the 16 districts of the state reported 51 fresh cases, followed by Bishnupur with 26, then Kakching with 20 and Chandel with 11. Other districts recorded below 10-mark.
