Manipur recorded over 1000 COVID-19 cases in a single day for the first time on Saturday. This update made the state to come close to 49,000-mark of the disease. According to the Health department, the state recorded 1,007 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.
With 15 more people succumbing to the COVID-19 related complications in the same period, the state’s fatality tally also rose to 776, the state Health department reflected in its daily COVID-19 situation report updated today at 5pm.
The report showed detection of 1,008 new cases while testing 4,900 samples in the last 24 hours. This is the highest ever single-day spike recorded since the onset of the pandemic in the state in March last year.
Until today, the highest single-day spike was 847 recorded on May 26 last.
This daily spike of 1,007 took the state’s overall COVID-19 infection tally to 48,890 including 40,044 recoveries and 8,030 active cases. The recovery rate of the state stood at 81.97%.
As per the report of the health department, 1006 persons (535 males and 471 females) from the general population and one personnel of the CAPF were confirmed as new COVID-19 cases in the state in the last 24 hours.
With 358, Imphal West continued to record the highest number of new cases and Imphal East followed with 237.
Five other districts recording higher numbers of fresh cases were Bishnupur (64), Churachandpur (91), Kakching (63), Thoubal (98) and Tamenglong (37).Â
Of the 15 persons expired due to COVID-19 complications in the past 24 hours, six were from Imphal West, five from Imphal East, two from Thoubal and one each from Bishnupur and Ukhrul district.
This latest casualties took the state’s COVID-19 related fatality tally to 776, the health department said.
