Manipur Regional Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics™️ Forum 2021, a flagship framework of Balipara Foundation will be held at Phayeng, West Imphal district on March 23.
The theme of the conference is ‘Community led forest restoration: ushering in climate action at grassroots’.
The Chakpa community village at Phayeng became India’s first carbon-positive village through the community’s initiative to restore and sustainably manage the forests around it, and to transition to restorative agricultural practices such as agroforestry. In a state with a high rate of deforestation, the Chakpa community case study offers unique lessons in how communities in Manipur can be the leaders of restoration & conservation initiatives.
The forum will explore the key challenges the community faces in protecting and restoring the forest today, the key strengths and opportunities that enabled them to act and the broader lessons and implications this has for Manipur – especially in enabling and scaling up similar initiatives with communities across the state for participatory grassroots climate action.
