Imphal: Manipur witnessed a sharp spike in the daily COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours. The state reported 76 fresh infections on Saturday, the highest since January 1.
Adding the fresh cases, the overall infection count of the state rose to 1,26,088 while the fatality toll rose to 2,010 with one more patient succumbing to the viral disease in the last 24 hours, the state Health department said, in its latest bulletin.
The fresh death was reported in Imphal West district and the deceased had the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, it added.
The number of active cases in the state also increased to 414 as only seven persons were discharged upon recovery on the day.

The latest discharges took the overall recovery count of the state to 1,23,664. The recovery rate of the state stood at 98.08%.
A total of 2,430 samples were tested on the day and the positivity rate of the day was 3.4%, which is the highest rate since January 1 last.
Analysis of the district-wise data of fresh cases showed a sharp spike of 19 cases in Churachandpur district even as Imphal East topped among the district with 22 fresh cases.
Ten fresh cases were reported in Imphal West district, eight in Bishnupur, six in Senapati, five in Thoubal and three in Kakching district.
Kamjong, Noney and Ukhrul districts reported one case each while no new cases reported in the remaining six districts.
On the other hand, the number of doses of COVID-19 administered in the state reached 23,43,309 with 5,397 more people vaccinated on Friday.
Of these total, 13,38,158 were first doses while the remaining 10,05,151 second doses, the Health department said.
