Manipur’s COVID-19 daily spike jumps to 206

The fatality toll remained at 2,012 as no death was reported on the day.

Imphal: A fast rise in the daily COVID-19 infection rate was recorded in Manipur in the past three days.

The fresh infections spiked to 206 against 116 on Tuesday while the test positivity rate (TPR) jumped to 8.60%. It was 5.08% on the previous day. The rate was 4.13% the day before.

The state Health department, in its latest bulletin, said that 206 fresh cases including 66 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were detected in the last 24 hours.

These fresh cases took the overall infection count COVID-19 infection in the state to 1,26,550.

However, the fatality toll remained at 2,012 as no death was reported on the day.

Only nine patients were discharged upon recovery on the day, taking the recovery tally of the state to 1,23,802. The recovery rate further declined to 97.83% against previous day’s 97.98%.

The active cases in the state also rose to 736.

Imphal West district reported 80 positive cases as the district continued to share the maximum number of fresh cases among the 16 districts of the state.

At 50, Chandel district surpassed Imphal East (30 fresh cases) in the daily infection surge.
Churachandpur reported 27 new cases and six in Bishnupur district.

Six districts reported no new cases in the last 24 hours while remaining five districts reported four or below the mark.

On the other hand, the number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in the state so far reached 23,62,921 with 5970 people being inoculated on Tuesday.

Of these total, 13,48,726 were first doses while the remaining 10,12,582 second doses, the Health department said.
