Ukhrul, Feb 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said today that the state government’s action has proven its commitment to ensure the start of scientific coal mining in the state.
He was reacting to the recent apprehension expressed by the Leader of Opposition and TMC leader Mukul Sangma that the state government may use scientific mining to facilitate illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state.
“I have nothing to say if that is how he (Mukul) thinks but for us as a government, we have been committed to ensure that scientific mining starts and our actions have proved our commitments to this, otherwise we would have just let things hang as it was and do nothing like it was done in the past,” Conrad Sangma told reporters during an interaction.

The CM also reminded that it was his government that challenged the NGT ban on coal mining saying, “It is this government that lobbied and work with government of India to pass the norms and the rules to ensure the private mines would be given the mining plan and it is this government that facilitated the entire process of bringing in all the technical agencies to make this happen.”
“So our actions have shown our commitments to ensure that we can start scientific mining so that things can proceed in a very clear and transparent manner. I think there is nothing more than that. So if any individual has any different thoughts, it is for that person to think like that, but our intentions are clear from the work and the actions that we have shown and as I said we are now getting the results of the actions that we have taken from our side,” he asserted.
