Minister Nemcha Kipgen’s house burnt by mob in Imphal

Imphal: As Manipur state reels under unabated sporadic violence with hopes of peace a distant dream, a mob on Wednesday evening burnt down the official quarter of minister Nemcha Kipgen in Imphal’s Lamphel locality.

Manipur Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel reportedly fired several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the mob but to no avail as the ministers house was already set on fire engulfed in flames.

A team of Manipur Fire Services rushed to the site and managed to douse the fire from spreading further. However, a major portion of the house was already burnt down when it arrived.

At least three other government quarters located inside the office premises of the Technical Promotional (TP) Cell, an engineering cell in Imphal, were also torched by a mob on Wednesday.

Reports said that a large number of people stormed the office premises located at Lamphelpat in Imphal West district and set ablaze abandoned quarters standing in row.

It may be mentioned that minister Nemcha Kipgen from the BJP party is one of the 10 Kuki MLAs who have placed a demand to the Centre for a Separate Administration for the Kuki-Zomis from Manipur.

Following which, there has been rising condemnations and demands from various sections to take actions against the Kuki MLAs for trying to break the territorial integrity of Manipur.
