Most Rev. Joseph Mittathany, Archbishop Emeritus, Archdiocese of Imphal to put to rest on July 14

Imphal: Most Rev. Joseph Mittathany, Archbishop Emeritus, Archdiocese of Imphal who passed away on 11 July, 2022 will be put to rest on July 14.

He breathed his last at Catholic Medical College (CMC) Hospital, Koirengei Imphal after serving the society in various capacity at the age of 91.

Sources told Ukhrul Times that his mortal remains will be laid to rest on July 14 (Thursday) at the Cathedral – the principal Church of the Archdiocese – built by him during his time as an Archbishop.

Born at Kalikavu, Kerala on July 12, 1931, Joseph Mithathany was ordained priest on April 23, 1959.

He was elected Bishop of Tezpur on June 26, 1969 and Bishop of Imphal on April 21, 1980.

There after he was appointed as Archbishop of Imphal on August 1, 1995 and retired on July 12, 2006.

During his lifetime, Most Rev. Joseph served as Priest for 63 years; Bishop for 53 years and Archbishop for 27 years.
