Kohima: The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) is all set to conduct 28th Naga Wrestling Championship 2022 cum 2nd Under 16 wrestling on February 28 at Kohima Local Ground.
Altogether 78 wrestlers will vie in the event. This was informed by the NWA president Dr. Hiabe Zeliang during a press conference held at Dr. Talimeren Conference Room of Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) office complex, Kohima on February 21.
The champion will fetch a cash prize of Rs.3.20 lakh along with citation and the champion belt including the Velahu Puro Memorial Trophy cash award of Rs. 30,000.
The 2nd position will receive a cash award of 2.20 lakh, 3rd position Rs. 1.20 lakh and 4th position Rs. 1 lakh along with citations, respectively. Losing quarter finalists will get Rs. 25,000 each.
18 top wrestlers each from NWA units of Angami Sports Association, Chakhesang Wrestling Association and Zeliang Wrestling Association will vie for the coveted title. Meanwhile, all the participants who have not received any prize will receive a participation allowance of Rs. 4000 each.
Under 16 category, 8 wrestlers each from three units will vie for top honours. In this category, the champion will receive Rs. 60,000, 2nd position Rs. 40,000, 3rd position Rs. 30,000 and the 4th position Rs. 25,000 respectively.
All the participants who will fail to figure in the prize winning list will receive Rs. 3000 each.
Any students in the Under 16 category who make it into the quarter finals will be provided with Rs. 1000 scholarship per month for a year.
Pesocha Baptist Thepfiiko Krotho Kohima will assist the meet as the ground management.
In regard to entry tickets, donors have been fixed at Rs. 3000, chair (First row) at Rs. 1000 and 2nd row onwards at Rs. 500.
Gallery tickets have been fixed at Rs. 150.
MLA Kiizholiizo (Azo) Nienu will be the inaugural guest while Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the special guest.
Meanwhile, NWA has granted provisional affiliation to the Wokha District Wrestling Association (WDWA).
