Nagaland JD(U) to work towards toppling BJP-led NDA govt

Kohima: Even as Janata Dal (United) in neighbouring Manipur is going through a difficult phase after five of its MLAs joined the BJP, the party in Nagaland has started discussing the election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly poll which is due months away.

According to the Nagaland unit of JD(U), a delegation from the state had met the central leaders of the party recently and discussed a “detailed strategy and the preparation of the party for the ensuing 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election in the event it takes place as scheduled”.

The delegation from Nagaland “called on the party supremo and Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar and National President Rajiv Ranjan and discussed, among others, poll strategy for upcoming State Assembly election”, a statement from the party said. According to the press note, the Nagaland unit of the party assured to “fight against all odds to fulfill Election Commission of India criterion to get our party register as national party and also work towards fulfilling the aspiration of regional parties to topple BJP-led NDA government and enable our leader to lead the nation”.

The JD(U) leaders then congratulated Nitin Kumar on his 8th stint as Chief Minister of Bihar after forming a greater alliance (Mahaghatbandhan) with six other political parties including RJD, Congress, INC, HAM, CPI(M)etc and extended wishes as he “endeavours to unify non opposition parties to take on BJP a in the forthcoming 2024 General Election (Lok Sabha poll)”.

According to the JD(U) statement, Bihar chief Minister Nitish Kumar was also “apprised about the Indo-Naga peace process vis-à-vis the impending solution”.
