Nagaland Police Seized 48.14 Kg of Gold Bars Valued at Rs. 22.78 Crore

Kohima: The Narcotic Cell of Nagaland Police at the interstate checkpoint at Khuzama, Kohima seized 48.14 Kg approximately of gold biscuit valued at Rs. 22.78 crore on October 3 morning. This was informed by ADG (Law & Order) Sandeep Tamgadge and his team while addressing the press at PHQ Kohima on October 4 evening.

ADG Sandeep informed that the gold bars were hidden inside the cover of gear lever of the vehicle XUV-300 bearing registration No. MN01AS-1325. 

The police intercepted the vehicle on the Kohima-Imphal National Highway and on thorough search the gold bar was packed neatly in 29 (twenty nine) packets, each packet containing 10 (ten) gold bars, and weighing approximately 166 grams each, said ADG.

The recovery of smuggled gold, weighing 48. 14 Kg (approx) and worth Rs.  22.78.46.620/- (Twenty two Crores seventy eight lakhs forty six thousand six hundred twenty) (approx).

The smuggled gold and the SUV carrying the yellow metal have been seized and two persons namely (1) Saurabh Singh (35 yrs), S/o Jaypal Singh, and (2) Pawan Kumar (45 yrs),  S/o Jitendraveer Singh, both residents of Uttar Pradesh, have been detained for further questioning to initiate appropriate legal action, ADG informed.

The seizure is the State’s single biggest seizure of the smuggled bullion, he added. 

He also said that Nagaland Police has increased its effort to check illegal activities from the main highway coming from Manipur taking Nagaland, Assam and rest of the country.
