Imphal, August 11: Nestle India, in collaboration with the Food Safety Administration, Manipur, and the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), has expanded its Project ‘Serve Safe Food’ in Manipur by training over 300 street food vendors in Imphal. This brings the total number of vendors trained in the state to over 800.
The project aims to elevate food hygiene and safety standards by educating vendors on health, safe food handling, waste disposal, and entrepreneurship. Since its launch in 2016, the initiative has benefitted over 92,800 street food vendors across 26 states and 4 Union Territories.

Somorjit Salam, Special Secretary, Health and Family Welfare and Food Safety Administration, Government of Manipur, highlighted the importance of street food in the state’s culture and tourism, expressing gratitude for the collaboration to upskill vendors.
Dr. Taruna Saxena, Head of Sustainability and Societal Initiatives at Nestle India, said the project empowers vendors to improve food safety awareness, aiming for positive behavioral change and sustainable business growth.
