Suspected ISIS-K Poster Sparks Law and Order Concerns in West Garo Hills

SHILLONG: West Garo Hills district police have launched an investigation to nab those responsible behind pasting of a poster which was allegedly signed by ISIS-K, warning Garos to vacate their land by 2027.

The poster, pasted on an electric pole near Law College in Araimile, Tura, Meghalaya, on Wednesday has sparked concerns about law and order in the district.

“The poster has been removed, and will be sent for forensic analysis. A case has been registered at Araimile police station and investigation has started,” West Garo Hills district police chief Abraham T Sangma said while assuring that “all our efforts are being made to identify and trace the persons responsible for pasting the poster and those who are circulating it to create panic and create communal disharmony. Accordingly, necessary actions will be taken against them as per relevant section(s) of law.”

He informed that at present, no other such posters have been noticed or reported from any other parts of the district.

“Preliminary assessment indicates that this may be a deliberate attempt by a person(s) or group with vested interests to create anxiety and disturb the law and order situation in the district,” Sangma stated.

He also appealed to the public not to panic and not to be misled by such messages on social media or other platforms which are being circulated to create communal disharmony.

Any suspicious activity or information, the public are requested to share the same with the nearest police station, outpost, beat house or the police control room, Tura immediately.

The police officer further assured that the law and order situation in the district is under control and necessary steps are being taken to maintain peace and harmony in and around the district.
