In the poll-bound Manipur, COVID-19 cases are increasing rapidly with daily positivity rate increased from previous day’s 15.2% to 19.3% on Friday.
The state goes to polls to elect 60 members of the state Assembly on February 27 and March 3.
The state reported 578 fresh cases on Friday against the previous day’s 448, taking the infection count to 1,29,257.
Deaths of two COVID-19 positive patients took the fatality toll in the state to 2,019, the latest bulletin of the Health department said.
One death each reported from Churachandpur and Ukhrul district. Both the deceased had the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, the health department said.
As many as 100 patients were discharged upon recovery on the day, taking the recovery tally of the state to 1,24,378. The number of active cases also rose to 2,860 while the recovery rate further dropped to 96.23%.
The worry is that more than half of the total fresh positive cases were reported in Imphal West, the worst affected districts of the state.
The district reported 331 new cases out of 1,151 samples tested on the day. The test positivity rate of the district was 28.8%.
Even though Imphal East reported 69 fresh cases to remain next to Imphal West in daily spike, a sudden jump was reported in Kangpokpi district with 60 fresh cases.
Churachandpur reported 29 new cases, 21 each in Thoubal and Bishnupur districts while other districts reported below 10-mark with zero cases in two districts- Noney and Pherzawl.
On the other hand, the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the state rose to 24,18,518 with 7022 more people being inoculated on Thursday.
Of these total, 13,78,579 were first doses, 10,28,160 second doses and 11,779 precautionary doses, the Health department said.
