Ukhrul, September 20: The Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL) has issued a strong condemnation and final notice following the assault of one of its members, Kingson Kashung, by two individuals who admitted to being members of the Kuki National Army (KNA).
According to a statement dated September 20, the incident occurred on September 17 at around 7:30 pm at Kanglatongbi. Kashung, a permanent resident of Chingshao Village in Kamjong District and presently residing at Kanglatongbi, was providing auto service to two Liangmai women when he was suddenly attacked from behind. TAKL described the assault as “unprovoked and cowardly,” stating it will never compromise with acts of terrorism, intimidation, and violence.

The organisation laid down three demands: that the two KNA personnel involved openly admit their crimes, that the KNA tender an official apology with reasons for the attack, and that the demands be fulfilled within 72 hours.
Until then, TAKL directed that no Tangkhul or citizen within its jurisdiction should cooperate with the Kuki community. It instructed that in Southern Tangkhul areas, shops owned by Tangkhuls be marked with a “Tangkhul” sign while shops of the Kuki community be identified with a “Kuki” sign. It further warned that any Tangkhuls purchasing from or supplying goods to Kukis would face strict action.

TAKL said the restriction will remain in place until accountability is ensured and an agreement is reached. It added that repeated incidents had left the organisation with no other option but to demand immediate admission from the KNA, warning that failure to comply would invite an appropriate response.
